ﭢ ﭣ ﭤ ﭥ ٥ ٥ ﭧ

ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٢ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٣ مَٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ ٤
This is as if Allah is saying: O My servants, if you praise and glorify the perfection of essence and attributes, then glorify Me, for I am "Allah"; if your praise is for benevolence and bounty, indeed I am "The Lord of the worlds"; if your praise is in hope for what is coming, indeed I am "The Most Gracious, the Ever Merciful", and if your praise is due to your fear, indeed I am "The Master of the Day of Judgment." Al-Alusi: 1/86.
Question: What implications do the four attributes in this Surah have on praising Allah?
بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ١ ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٢ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ ٣ مَٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ ٤ إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ ٥ ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ ٦
Since asking Allah for guidance to the Straight Path is a revered request and its attainment is the noblest gift from Allah, He taught His servants how to ask for it. He ordained that they praise and glorify Him before asking. Then, He mentions their servitude and their belief in His Oneness (Tawhīd), for these are two means to attain their goal. Therefore, seek the means to Him by His names and attributes and through your servitude to Him. No supplication which is accompanied by these two means will go unanswered. Ibn Al-Qayim: 1/36.
Question: In these verses, two means for answering supplication are mentioned. What are they?
إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ ٥
Seeking Allah's help is mentioned after worship, even though it is a part of it, because the servant needs Allah's help in performing all acts of worship; if Allah does not help him, he will not attain what he aspires of fulfilling commands and avoiding prohibitions.Al-Saadi: 39.
Question: Seeking Allah's help is mentioned after worship, even though it is a part of it. Why?
إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ ٥
Worship is the highest level of submissiveness, and it is not permissible, according to Sharia and reason, to do it except for Allah, because He is alone worthy of it, as He is the Giver of the greatest blessings of life, existence, and everything they entail. Al-Alusi: 1/86.
Question: Why is worship must be directed to Allah alone?
إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ ٥ ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ ٦
The use of the pronoun (we) for worship signifies that prayer is a collective activity. Al-Biqai: 1/17.
Question: In this Surah, why is the plural form used with these words: Worship, reliance and supplication?
ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ ٦
The need for guidance is more important than the need for victory or sustenance. In fact, there is no comparison between the two because once the servant is guided he becomes righteous, (and whoever fears Allah, He will make for him a way out and will provide for him from where he does not expect). Ibn Taimyah: 1/116.

ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٰطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ ٦
Steadiness of the servant on the bridge that Allah set up over Hellfire on the Last Day depends on his steadiness on the path of Allah in this life, and he will cross that bridge then in the same manner that he conducts his life here. Some will cross as fast as lightning, and some will cross in a blink of an eye. Therefore, one should reflect on crossing that bridge on the Last Day in comparison to how well he follows the path of Allah in this life, a befitting recompense for his deeds, (Are you recompensed except for what you used to do) [27-90]. Ibn Al-Qayim: 1/35.
Question: What is the link between following the path of Allah in this life and crossing of the bridge over Hellfire on the Last Day?
